Sir J. J. Institute of Applied Art, Mumbai started operations in the premises of Sir J. J. School of Art from 1935 onwards and was awarded independent institute status in 1961.

The Institute is leading to the Bachelor of Fine Art Course and Postgraduate course of Master in Fine Art.

The Institute is affiliated with University of Mumbai, Mumbai. It is recognized and approved by the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), New Delhi.

It is a co-educational private Institute aims at providing regular courses and specialized training Visual Communication. The specialized areas covered are Lettering-Typography, Illustration, Photography, Computer Graphics and the Exhibition Design & Stage Craft. It is located in the urban part of Mumbai played a pioneering role in the field of higher education.

The Institute has received many awards and accolades at a city, state and national level for their educational advancements also received the numbers of achievements awards in the field of sports and curricular activities under the University of Mumbai, Mumbai.

The Institute received awards from the Govt. as a Government Cash prize to the meritorious students of this institute awarded annually to them, whose work is found outstanding at the Annual Art Exhibition of the students work.

At present, the Institute offers 4 years of the undergraduate program in Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA) and 2 years of the postgraduate program in Master of Fine Arts (MFA) and research program.

The Institute has its own selection process under Directorate of Art, Maharashtra State, Mumbai. The college has an online application process where prospective applicants are expected to fill in their interests and academic achievements.

Such candidates should examine whether their percentage marks (Best of Four/PCB/PCM, whichever is applicable) falls within the cut- off percentage declared by the Institute for admission in different courses.

University examinations of different courses, examinations conducted by the University of Mumbai, Mumbai, and various other examinations are held in the Institute premises.

• Increase accessibility to a variety of arts education disciplines and experiences for learners of all ages, abilities, and geographic locations
• Expand the number of statewide organizations that address the needs of our state’s growing population of mature and lifelong learners
